Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie and wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy have both come through fitness tests and will play for Yorkshire tomorrow in their LV Championship clash against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.
But a decision will not be taken until shortly before the match as to who will drop out in order to accommodate England captain Michael Vaughan, who is hungry to make runs for Yorkshire ahead of the Test series against the West Indies which starts later this month.
Left-handed Joe Sayers could have been the one for the chop but for his epic 149 against Durham at Headingley Carnegie last week when he occupied the crease for nine hours and 13 minutes while carving out an innings which helped Yorkshire win by nine wickets to take them to a ten-point lead at the top of the division one table.
It is not an easy dilemma to wriggle out of and it may be that Yorkshire will have to sacrifice Craig White, despite his fine century in the crushing victory over Surrey at the Oval.
Gillespie has now recovered from the stiff back which caused him to miss the Durham match and Anthony McGrath is now over the chest infection which resulted in him standing down too.
Brophy, struck painfully on the right knuckle while facing up to Stephen Harmison, missed the Friends Provident Trophy game with Scotland in Edinburgh on Sunday but was fit enough to travel to Southampton today with a squad of 13 which also included a second specialist leg-spinner in Mark Lawson.
Adil Rashid is in outstanding form, grabbing five wickets against Durham, but Lawson may join up with him if the conditions are right.
Yorkshire know that the Rose Bowl pitch will be prepared to suit Hampshire captain Shane Warne, the game's greatest exponent of leg spin, but the Tykes could still hold the advantage if Rashid and Lawson bowl in tandem in helpful conditions.
Rashid, having just taken six wickets on his Yorkshire debut at Scarborough last season, could not play in the next game at the Rose Bowl because of his England Under 19s call-up, but Lawson came in and hugely impressed Warne by capturing six wickets himself.
Yorkshire from: White, Sayers, Vaughan, McGrath, Younus Khan, Rudolph, Brophy, Adil Rashid, Bresnan, Gough, Gillespie, Hoggard, Lawson.
