Rich Pyrah recorded a career best 134 not out as Yorkshire dominated the students of Loughborough University on a rain affected second morning at Headingley.

The 27 year-old all-rounder had previously only hit one first-class career ton – against the same opponents three years ago.

And he went one better this morning with a blistering assault on a bowling attack that also struggled to contain wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy and all-rounder Lee Hodgson.

Pyrah peppered the West Stand (the Western Terrace in old money) with regularity as he pulled his way to five sixes and 12 fours in a 175-ball innings.

He shared a fourth wicket partnership of 164 inside 41 overs with Brophy, who was one of only two wickets to fall this morning when he found Harveer Gandam at cover off the bowling of off-spinner Charl Malan.

Brophy hit 14 fours in a 167-ball innings of 89 – and yesterday recorded his second half century in two days after 93 in Sunday’s CB40 win against Derbyshire.

Pyrah and Lee Hodgson then shared a fifth wicket partnership of 86 inside 16 overs as the latter made 33 off 46 balls.

But he was caught behind off the Rob Taylor with the last ball of the session. Yorkshire declared immediately on 348-5.

Play was halted for 45 minutes this morning due to a rain shower.
