Somerset have continued to close in on Yorkshire’s first-innings score of 405 on the morning session on day three of their LV=County Championship clash at Taunton.

The Tykes attack have managed to take three wickets though under overcast conditions to leave the hosts on 324 for seven at the interval.

It means they are only 81 runs behind the Tykes total, but at least the talented Jos Buttler, impressive Arul Suppiah and Ben Phillips have been removed in the west country.

Under darkening skies it was Suppiah that was first to depart for a heart breaking 99, when he was caught by Jacques Rudolph at slip off David Wainwright in the thirteenth over of the day.

Then Wainwright picked up a second wicket of the day to remove Buttler, for a well made 52, when he top edged one to Adam Lyth at mid-wicket to leave Somerset on 296 for six.

That brought Ben Phillips to the crease though and he and Peter Trego looked to have successfully negotiated the rest of the session until Phillips, who had made 16, was trapped lbw by Adil Rashid with the last ball of the morning.

It means after lunch the two men at the crease for the hosts will be Peter Trego on 12 and Alfonso Thomas, who is yet to face a ball.
