Yorkshire lost three wickets for 11 runs to hand Lancashire the initiative after two sessions of the Roses clash at Liverpool.
The White Rose county went into tea at 117-5 from 60 overs, but they were going reasonably well at 95-2 in difficult batting conditions.
Joe Sayers fell for a determined 53 off 148 balls courtesy of a stunning catch at backward point by Steven Croft off the bowling of Jimmy Anderson. Croft caught the ball one-handed diving away to his left.
Andrew Gale (31), who had shared 65 for the third wicket with Sayers, was then bowled around his legs by left-arm spinner Gary Keedy before the same bowler had Gary Ballance caught at silly point by Mark Chilton.
Adil Rashid and Simon Guy will return to the crease after tea.
