A record crowd bore witness to a run spree by Yorkshire Seconds at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
The ground was swelled by close on 400 fans with the overflow car park having to be used to accommodate the bumper attendance for the visit of Derbyshire in the County Second XI Championship encounter.
Yorkshire batted first and suffered an early blow with the exit of Joe Sayers with just 29 runs on the board.
But the Tykes prospered in glorious conditions at the Low Catton Road ground.
Opener Joe Root made 126 with Alex Lees coming in at number three to hit 96 as the duo enjoyed a second-wicket partnership worth 198.
Yorkshire finally finished on 335-9 with Derbyshire’s chief wicket-grabbers being Matt Sanderson, with 3-47, and Steve Liburd (3-50).
Derbyshire managed 16 overs in their reply before the close of play, advancing to 49 for the loss of just one wicket, which was captured by Azeem Rafiq.
