The first morning’s honours have been shared as Yorkshire take on Lancashire in the Roses match at Headingley today.

Andrew Gale, who won the toss, bravely decided to bowl first with overhead conditions overcast, and Ryan Sidebottom has rewarded him with the wickets of Stephen Moore and Karl Brown.

But Lancashire have moved to 79-2 from 30 overs at lunch, with Paul Horton unbeaten on 36.

Moore was trapped lbw in the third over before Brown loosely slashed outside off stump and edged to Jacques Rudolph at first slip, leaving the score at 41-2 after 13 overs.

Horton, who has an enviable record against Yorkshire in Championship cricket, has stood firm throughout the morning session, surviving a handful of lbw shouts from the likes of Sidebottom, whose first spell cost him only ten runs from eight overs, and Rich Pyrah.

Horton will resume this afternoon with Mark Chilton for company.

Fast bowler Iain Wardlaw is making his LV= County Championship debut, while Anthony McGrath has held onto his place in favour of Adam Lyth.
