YORK CC enjoyed a comprehensive eight-wicket home victory over Sheffield United in the Yorkshire ECB Premier Cricket League on Saturday.

The visitors elected to bat and obtained a steady start through Martin Barlow and John Trower.

It was down to second change bowler Rob Flack, to get the breakthrough by dismissing Barlow for 23, but this only brought in Neil Longhurst, who was to emerge. top scorer for his side with 60.

At 80 with 27 overs left York seemed to be on a containment mission but the introduction of Mark Bell's leg spin changed events as he dismissed Trower (36) in his first over and Paul Cook a few overs later but it was still a struggle for York to get wickets.

Two smart run outs by Dan Wilson from long off and Dan Broadbent at short leg helped the Clifton Park side and Dan Broadbent snapped up three victims towards the close, but forfeiting two points for failing to dismiss United may cause York to regret not introducing spin earlier in the game. United's last seven wickets fell for just 42 runs In reply York had a little alarm when last week's double centurion Broadbent went early. However, ever-dependable Steve Piercy dug in and eventually saw the innings through to victory with an unbeaten 71.

Wilson contributed a stylish knock but the star performer was Nick Kay, whose rapid fire 50 concluded with six consecutive fours off a Longhurst over.

North Yorkshire rivals Scarborough thumped Appleby Frodingham by 112 runs with Kunwar Bansil (119) scoring his first century for the Seasiders. He figured in a second wicket stand of 126 with Kaushik Aphale (47) with Chris Gilbert weighing in with a quickfire 78 off 55 balls as Scarborough posted 257-7.
