York Cricket Club staged a fine recovery to ease into the semi-finals of the Cockspur Cup Yorkshire Group.

They were in deep trouble against visitors Methley at 95-5 with only 17 overs remaining.

However, a fine stand of 107 between skipper Marcus Wood (55) and Rob Flack changed the game and York were able to post 213-8 off their allotted 45 overs.

Wood's well-paced innings came at just better than a run a ball before he was unluckily run out at the non-striker's end. Flack's half-century came off 62 deliveries and included four sixes.

Earlier Chris Kippax and Victor Craven had grabbed a couple of wickets apiece to have York on the back foot but the home side responded well.

Wood's men also didn't panic when Methley started scoring at a good rate but the West Yorkshire team eventually lost wickets to leg spinner Mark Bell and Nick Kay.

Former Harrogate and Yorkshire opener John Inglis was the first to fall when he was trapped lbw by Nick Thornicroft, who also removed wicketkeeper-opener Lee Goddard.

But Richard Foster (44) and Craven, another ex-county player, kept the scoreboard ticking along before Bell removed both. Bell went on to take 4-39 off his nine overs with Kay supporting well with a mean 3-12 off six overs.
