York Cricket Club eased to the top of the Yorkshire ECB Premier League when they beat Yorkshire Academy by 29 runs.

Marcus Wood boldly elected for York to bat first but they didn't get off to one of their best starts and had lost three wickets for 64 after 20 overs.

However, Nick Kay and Duncan Snell provided the impetus before the spice was added by Alex Collins, who stroked 62 in even time in a century partnership with Snell taking York to 228.

After Asdil Rashid had given the Academy a useful start, Chris Allinson and St Peter's schoolboy Jon Bairstow restored their team's fortunes to the point where defeat for York seemed a possibillity.

After an indifferent first spell Kay returned to dismiss Allinson and then caught Richard Blakey with his pads in front.

Bairstow, hitting six fours and a six, continued to bat well but was finally bowled by a Mark Bell leg-break. This left 62 runs required off seven overs but the real target was to bowl out the Academy.

After a Kay wicket and a smart run-out, Rob Flack returned to grab the last two wickets in ten as York squeaked home with only two deliveries remaining.
