A BRILLIANT innings of 151 by opener Duncan Snell steered York Cricket Club to a 27-run victory over Doncaster Town in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League.
Snell, who was dropped at slip on nought, made his unbeaten knock off 135 balls in 215 minutes to help the visitors to 307-7 from their 55 overs.
Put into bat by the hosts, Snell and Liam McKendry made a superb start, putting on 85 before McKendry was unluckily run out at the non-striker’s end for 43. Simon Mason went cheaply, but Snell and returning Australian Dan Wilson added 62 for the third wicket before Wilson was caught on the boundary for 36.
The other major stand towards the end of the York innings was between Tom Bartram and Snell, which added 83 runs in 40 minutes. Bartram was bowled in the final over for 37.
Doncaster’s bowlers sent down 13 no balls between them and their fielding was also below par.
Their openers, Graham Attenborough and Amit Kundra, started soundly, putting on 101 runs before Kundra was bowled by leg spinner Tom Pringle for 37 in the 25th over.
Attenborough was then well caught by Mason off slow left-armer Daniel Woods for 68.
Doncaster skipper Andrew Parkin-Coates dropped anchor at one end but, with 20 overs left, the Doncaster total had only reached 135-2, still 173 runs short.
However, when the fourth wicket fell on 155 in the 41st over, opening bowler Alex Gosney came to the crease and continued his excellent form with an innings of 88, which included five fours and six sixes. His knock lasted 51 balls in 52 minutes until he was bowled in the penultimate over by Neil Laidlaw, who was last week called up by Scotland.
Doncaster reached 280-7 at the end of their 55 overs, a score which gave them two points for making more than 90 per cent of York’s total.
Parkin-Coates made 43 for Doncaster, while Pringle bowled well to earn figures of 3-92 from 22 overs – a fine performance on such a good batting track.
York were delighted to take six points as Doncaster had won all three of their previous league games.
