RAMPANT York Cricket Club piled on the runs to stretch their lead to 20 points at the top of the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League.

Australian opener Dan Wilson plundered 151 off 156 balls against Cleethorpes and in-form Simon Mason smashed a sensational 51-ball century.

Duncan Snell rattled up 62 as York flayed their Clifton Park visitors for 344 before declaring with seven wickets down after 51 overs.

Spinners Tom Pringle (4-64) and Daniel Woods (4-72) then combined to send Cleethorpes spinning to a 158-run defeat, bowling them out for 186 in 45 overs.

York skipper Marcus Wood elected to bat in overcast conditions, and Wilson and Snell soon got into their stride against the bowling of Peter Fulton and Jack Harrison.

Wilson was dropped early on and then took the lion’s share of the strike. The openers put on 158 in 97 minutes before Snell fell.

Mason and Wilson then added 165 runs in 64 minutes, and only New Zealand Test batsman Fulton escaped severe punishment.

Mason made exactly 100 when he was caught off Fulton’s bowling. His whirlwind innings ranks among the fastest in league history and included 11 fours and six sixes.

Wilson was out three runs later having made 151, including 19 fours and two sixes.

Fulton took 4-107 in 24 overs, but received little support.

Cleethorpes had 59 overs in which to reach their 345-run victory target and Bill Kirby and Eddie Carlton gave their side a good start against the seamers.

However, when the spinners took over, Woods had Carlton lbw for 36 with the score on 65.

Kirby batted exceptionally well until he was run out taking a second run to Nick Kay when he had made 84. The score was 146-6.

Jack Harrison hit 25 before being last out, caught by Wilson off Woods as Cleethorpes fell at 186.

Reigning champions York now boast a 20-point advantage over second-placed Barnsley.
