IN-FORM York Cricket Club bowlers Daniel Woods and Tom Pringle sent Sheffield Collegiate spinning to defeat in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League.

Leaders York made 180-9 after losing the toss at Abbeydale Park on Saturday and then dismissed their hosts for 142, with Woods taking 5-41 and Pringle 3-48.

York’s innings got off to a poor start as Duncan Snell was out to the second ball of the opening over without scoring and Simon Mason followed in the next over, caught slashing outside the off stump.

Dan Wilson and Liam McKendry improved the position, adding 45 before Wilson was bowled by Nadeem Khan for 20.

McKendry and Alex Collins put on 65 runs in 18 overs before McKendry skied a catch having made 63 off 109 balls.

A stand of 29 between Collins and Nick Kay took the score to 144 before Kay was out for 18. Two runs later Collins followed for 37.

Of the lower order, only skipper Marcus Wood and Tom Bartram got into double figures.

York’s total was satisfactory given that the wicket did not encourage stroke play and needed careful shot selection and patience.

Slow left-armer Khan was Collegiate’s best bowler with a return of 5-64 in 18 overs.

The home side’s reply faltered early on as Matt Lee was clean bowled in McKendry’s first over. Bartram then sent back Bill Root, lbw for 12.

Ed McKenna struck four boundaries in his 23 before he was third out with the score on 62.

Woods and Pringle had taken over the bowling by then and bowled unchanged for the rest of the Collegiate innings, sending down 19 overs each.

Opener Patmore made 26 before being caught at short leg by Mason off Woods, and the home side would have been in a sorry state without the contribution of Khan who, after his earlier efforts with the ball, made 56 before being last out caught off the last ball of the 53rd over.

York were the winners by 38 runs and took all eight points from the game, maintaining their 22-point lead at the top of the table.

Yesterday, York booked a date with Castleford in the Yorkshire League Cup final after trouncing Doncaster Town by 86 runs in the semi-final at Clifton Park.

Wilson made 105 in York’s 257-8 and Doncaster were restricted to 171-9 in reply.
