CASTLEFORD are the only thing stopping York Cricket Club from adding yet another trophy to the cabinet.

The Clifton Parkers host their West Yorkshire rivals in the final of the Yorkshire League Cup on Sunday and victory would give them a clean sweep of county trophies.

Marcus Wood’s men currently hold, and are well on their way to winning again, the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League title and also won a rearranged Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy final at the start of the season.

They reached the final thanks to a brilliant display with bat and ball from Aussie import Dan Wilson, who hit 105 from 102 balls and added 4-20 as York destroyed Doncaster Town.

Top of the table York are 35 points ahead of Castleford in league matters, but their fourth-placed rivals are enjoying a good season and will pose a threat.

First, York must concentrate on league action and a trip to Harrogate tomorrow. Their North Yorkshire rivals were the last team to beat them in the league – on Saturday, June 20, 2009.

The Clifton Parkers have benefited from a settled team in recent weeks and it’s a familiar XI, particularly at the top of the order, which will play both games.

Wilson, Duncan Snell, Simon Mason and Liam McKendry have been scoring runs for fun and the only changes see Wood and ’keeper Nigel Durham drop out of the side which will meet Castleford.

As in previous Sunday fixtures, they are replaced by James Wackett and Matthew Hodsdon.

Secretary Nick Kay, who will skipper the cup final squad, said it would an “honour” to lead the side onto the field.

“I am very excited about it and I am looking forward to it,” he said.

“They always raise their game to play York and we have been lucky in the last three to four years in that we have managed to perform with the bat. All they need to do is get a couple of wickets early on and they will be very difficult to beat. But we are at full strength and we are playing good cricket.”

On Harrogate, Kay added: “They are the form team in the league.

“They have won seven on the bounce, taking maximum points.

“They were the last team to beat us, when we lost there last year, and it is one of the toughest places to get a result. We don’t expect it to be any different tomorrow.”
