YORK Cricket Club face a two-fold challenge this weekend – extending their league lead while taking the first step in retaining their Black Sheep Champions Trophy crown.
The Clifton Parkers take a trip to Sheffield Collegiate in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier division tomorrow before, on Sunday, welcoming Wharfedale-based Burley to Clifton Park for a Trophy battle.
Still unbeaten in the league, skipper Marcus Wood’s men have a 14-point advantage over their nearest chasers Barnsley.
Their Collegiate hosts lie in mid-table, 26 points behind, but have two games in hand on York and have won three of their six matches.
York’s league run continued with a thumping win over Scarborough last time out – a second successive seven-wicket haul from vice-captain Dan Woods and 72 from Duncan Snell the key performances.
Burley took a league and cup double last season – taking the Airedale & Wharfedale Senior Cricket League while also scooping the Waddilove Cup.
Their form this season has been nowhere near as impressive. Of their seven matches, they have won just two and are in ninth place in the table.
