York Cricket Club are looking to bounce back from their first defeat in two years as they face a difficult Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League trip to Hull on Saturday.

The reigning champions saw their long winning sequence end in a 148-run thumping by Yorkshire Academy at Clifton Park last Saturday. “It was obviously disappointing to lose last week, especially in the manner that we did,” said Dan Woods, York’s vice-captain.

“It might have been just what we needed though. Cricket often gives you a reminder that you’ve still got a way to go.”

He added that the team were taking steps to ensure that this defeat is not the start of a serious dip in form.

“We aren’t going to overreact, just going to take each game as it comes. We aren’t going to take anything for granted,” he said.

As well as the trip to Hull, York also have a testing Yorkshire League Knockout Cup match at home to Barnsley on Sunday, a match rescheduled from last weekend due to the weather.

“The cup is a completely different competition,” said Woods.

“The team will be different from Saturday’s game, with some young lads from the second team having the opportunity to come through.”

York are unchanged from last Saturday for the Hull fixture, while Ryan McKendry is in line to step up from the second string for Sunday’s game with Woods unavailable.
