A CENTURY from Duncan Snell was the feature of York Cricket Club’s highest total of the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League season as they trounced basement side Doncaster Town.
Snell smashed 114 as the table-topping Clifton Parkers amassed 356-5 on home soil before bowling out the visitors for 165 in a 191-run win.
Dan Woods, deputising for captain Marcus Wood, won the toss, chose to bat and watched his batsmen take full advantage of near perfect conditions.
Snell lost opening partner Liam McKendry (21) caught behind with the score on 39, but he and Oliver Hairs (60) then added 105 runs from only 72 deliveries.
Snell’s half-century came off 47 balls, but Hairs reached the landmark from 11 balls fewer with seven fours and a six. The partnership was ended when Hairs chipped a simple return catch to spinner Felix Odell.
Snell could have followed when Lewis Brown took a fine catch in the deep but he stepped on the boundary rope.
Alex Collins (14) was third out to spinner Duncan Jones (2-86) before Nick Kay (32) helped add 66 for the fourth wicket.
Left-hander Snell reached his century from 93 balls, but was caught at deep long-off by Chris Cusack.
Andrew Tute (53no), returning to the first team after a spell in the seconds, scored a rapid-fire half-century from 33 balls. His unbeaten stand of 96 with Ryan McKendry (38no) enabled Woods to declare at the end of the 46th over, setting the visitors 357 for victory from 64 overs.
Odell (66) was the only batsman to offer real resistance in Town’s response. The opener was the last man out having watched a succession of partners come and go at the hands of York’s spin pairing of Woods (5-80) and Tom Pringle (4-42).
Jake Murphy trapped Amit Kundra lbw to claim the only wicket to fall to seam bowling.
Visiting captain Alex Gosney made 20 and Neil Redfearn 18 before James Watson’s breezy 33 provided some late entertainment.
Murphy left the field with a shoulder injury and may be out of action for three weeks.
