HPH Cup holders North Duffield could not translate their high-flying start to the league campaign into making a solid defence of their trophy.

They were brought down to earth by second division opposition Ben Johnson in the first round.

A solid 42 from Tim Hill was the highlight of Ben Johnson's 110-6 on a very slow wicket on which bowlers Lee Wild and Trevor Brittain conceded just 25 runs in their combined 20 overs.

But Darren Snowden (3-18) removed the dangerous Wild and Dave Bell (5-18) continued the pressure to give Ben Johnson a well-deserved 31-run conquest.

Hemingbrough Seconds staged a remarkable come-back in the opening round of the Scothern Construction Cup.

Calum Dent (73) and Simon Carding (33) helped Wheldrake Seconds to a respectable 177-7.

In reply, Hemingbrough looked very much out of it at 85-7 when Malc Walker joined Mark Allitt to transform the game.

Walker blitzed 82 out of an eighth-wicket partnership of 97 in 12 overs to seal a magnificent victory.
