A TRULY Wild show propelled North Duffield's advance to second place in the HPH York Vale Cricket League first division.

The North ranks bagged a comfortable eight-wicket win at Westow led by Lee Wild.

Westow totalled 120-9, Mark Earle's 41 anchoring the innings as Chris Coward and Lee Cole shared six wickets.

Then it was Wild's turn to steal the show. His rapid 60, supplemented by 41 from David Bielby, wrapped things up for the visitors.

New leaders Wheldrake posted a 54-run win at Askham Bryan YPO, where half-centuries from Mark Lambert and Anthony Clark helped them to 160-5, Mark Grewer returning 4-25.

The Fearn family Mark, Les and David then bowled Wheldrake to victory sharing nine wickets.

Bishopthorpe toppled previous pace-setters Drax by 62 runs.

Graham Davis (42) and an unbeaten 37 from Ian Holmes helped the Bishops to 155-7. Skipper Steve Smith held the Drax innings together with 43 but received little support.

Hemingbrough consolidated their 100 per cent record at the top of division two with a win at York who were dismissed for 92. Damien Sharpe (42) and Sabir Khan (28) dominated the eight-wicket win.

Hirst United were no match for division three leaders Barmby Moor. They struggled on a sticky wicket for 72 with R Lazenby taking three catches. He then followed up with a knock of six runs, eked out of a marathon 26 overs, to help to secure an eight-wicket win for Barmby Moor.

Joint leaders Burton Salmon beat University Staff by six wickets thanks to the reliable Martin Senior bowling throughout for a return of 4-38 and a swashbuckling unbeaten 80 from Steve Warner.

The top teams in division four clashed at Sandhill Lane, where visitors Melbourne won by 43 runs to take over the leadership.

Mal Harrison (44) and Greg Nesbitt (45) gave Melbourne the ideal start with an opening partnership of 66 on their way to 153-7. Selby were never in the hunt with Nesbitt returning 5-54.

In division five, a double bowling change by Huntington, who brought on Steve Dale (3-24) and Steve Foster (3-17) put the brakes on Thorpe Willoughby.

The Thorpe ranks were indebted to a 65-run partnership from Garry Turner (30) and Pete Masterman (27) as they posted a modest 104-7.

Replying, Huntington lost wickets at vital times, Richard Bowker taking 5-51 and Granville North mopping up the tail with 4-25.

Malton & Old Malton secured their first win of the season against Stockton & Hopgrove.

Despite losing early wickets they finally overhauled the the visitors' modest total of 71 in which Barry Sellers was the mainstay with a patient 23. Dave Chugg (4-19) and Rob Moore (4-8) were the pick of the bowling for the Malton men.
