LEADERS Hemingbrough shared more than 400 runs with title rivals Copmanthorpe in their HPH York Vale Cricket League division one victory.

Copmanthorpe made steady progress after a poor start, with Darren Hughes (57) the mainstay.

Peter Northfield hit a lively 31 not out to give the visitors a total of 209-8.

Hemingbrough lost two quick wickets, but a stand of 132 between Tom Collins (100) and Matthew Milburn (36) laid the foundations for a four-wicket win.

Burn maintained their challenge for the title with an eight-wicket win over Bishopthorpe with runs from Lee Adamson (60) and Ray Adamson (40) ensuring victory.

University Staff’s losing streak continued with a seven-wicket defeat at North Cave.

Wheldrake overcame Heworth by seven wickets, with Les and Dave Fearn taking seven wickets between them.

Barmby Moor overcame Clifton Alliance, with S Anderson hitting 85.

In division two, Askham Bryan batsman Parag Mohite executed a well-crafted 40 against Melbourne, but no other batsman contributed significantly to the total of 139.

Melbourne’s Eddie Oliver batted well for his 61 and his side’s victory target was reached with six overs and six wickets to spare.

North Duffield managed to field a full side but were beaten by Selby, for whom Steve Whisker carried his bat for 74 not out.

Fulfordgate were blasted out by Dinuk Mirando 5-20 and could only reach 106, a target Ben Johnson reached for the loss of only two wickets.

Stockton & Hopgrove lost to Westow, whose Andy Welford produced a masterclass in batsmanship to score 74 and ensure victory with four balls to spare.

Dave Brummitt took 5-38 in Ovington’s win over Kelfield.

In division three, Acomb 15-year-old Dan Littlewood led his side to victory with a knock of 51 against Hemingbrough, who had Andy Rowley batting through 40 overs for his 41 not out.

Thorpe Willoughby lost to rivals Hirst Courtney by four wickets.

Stillingfleet beat Welton & Brough by 90 runs, but Welton’s Mattie Glew had a big say in the game.

The Welton man took 5-30 and then added 68 not out, but all was in vain as Chris Warner (3-23) and Rob Bielby (3-33) removed most of his partners.

At Elmpark Way, Heworth II made hay in the sunshine, turning 26-3 into 235-7 after opting to bat first against Pocklington.

Pete Fairburn scored his maiden century against division four’s bottom team.

Pocklington battled to 138, but father and son duo Pervez and Mobeen Ahkter took five wickets between them and Michael Barratt chipped in with 3-22.

Malton totalled 257 all out after rocking at 16-3 against Askham Bryan II, with James Spencer smashing 131 from 109 balls and James Dawson junior scoring 42.

Askham subsided for 94, with Andy Thompson taking 5-23.

York RI beat Huntington in a low-scoring game, with Gary Walker taking 5-29.

In division five, Thorp Arch’s John Orell hit 104 in a 73-run win against Thorpe Willoughby, while York’s Adam Maltby took 4-10 against Tadcaster.

A century opening stand between Pete Fairclough (63) and Nigel Collinson (78) helped Stockton beat Drax.
