WESTOW openers Mark Earle and Andrew Welford put together another massive partnership as Heworth’s bowlers were put to the sword.

The dynamic duo followed last week’s 177-stand against Woodhouse Grange in the Scothern Construction Cup with an even bigger one in their HPH York Vale Cricket League division two game on Saturday.

Earle (85) and Welford (74) put on 194 as ten-man Westow amassed 254-6. Heworth’s Greg Sykes (61), Arron Wood (55) and Matthew Huffer (36) kept the game alive, but Westow held on to win by seven runs.

Craig Lawson scored his first ton as Hirst Courtney beat University of York Staff by eight wickets.

Mark Dusheiko’s 65 not out saw Staff to 169-5, but Lawson needed only 68 balls to smash an unbeaten 102, hitting a six to get an extra batting point and reach his century.

Kelfield’s Phil Smith blasted four successive sixes as he took 29 off the second over bowled by Askham Bryan’s Adrian Stipetic. Smith was eventually out for 91 and Stipetic fought back to claim four wickets to support Mark Grewer’s 5-55, but Kelfield won by 52 runs.

Alan Baldock (76) also took two Selby wickets in his first over in Fulfordgate’s surprise win.

In division one, Bishopthorpe claimed their first ever win at Barmby Moor in spectacular fashion, rolling over the home side for 52. Tom Eckhart (5-31) was the destroyer-in-chief as Moor lost by nine wickets.

Richard Kerrison fell six runs short of a century as his Stockton & Hopgrove side thumped Wheldrake. Stockton totalled 197-5 and Wheldrake were soon in the mire at 27-5, eventually being bowled out for 92.

Champions Hemingbrough are struggling to find their best form and poor batting saw them slide from 100-5 after 23 overs to 123 all out against Copmanthorpe, whose Salman Syed following his 3-27 with 48.

Jon Bladen led Clifton Alliance to an impressive eight-wicket triumph at Burn with 5-27 and 31, the highest innings in a low-scoring match.

Ben Johnson were well beaten by North Cave whose skipper James Ferguson made a well-controlled 77.

Melbourne and Stillingfleet tied in division three. Melbourne were in the box seat with 259-5 thanks to Matt Beevers (66) and Ian Scott (65). But Phil Johnson’s superb 106, supported by Wayne Livesey (51), took Stillingfleet to the brink of victory only for last man Jake Drummond to be run out off the final delivery.

Powerful scoring by Geoff Room (64) and teenager Will Megginson (62) saw Thixendale overwhelm North Duffield by 143 runs.

Deepak Selvaraj (65no) and Will Stephens (55) guided York to victory at Copmanthorpe II in division four and club chairman John Latimer’s 6-20 saw Bishopthorpe II beat Burn II.

Thorpe Willoughby II’s Jake Wild returned the best bowling figures of the season with 7-19 from 11 overs as Yapham were skittled for 68 in division five.

Mike Thorpe’s 5-13 swept Selby II to victory against Malton & Old Malton II, while Pocklington’s Jed Vale took a match-winning 5-33 against Askham Bryan II.
