Bishopthorpe are the new leaders of HPH York Vale Cricket League division one after toppling Stockton & Hopgrove.
Scott Reeves proved a key man with bat and ball as the Bishops won by six wickets.
Dave Kerrison (56) and his brother Rich (47) helped Stockton to 109-1 from 26 overs, but Reeves’ 3-41 put the brakes on. He then took charge with an unbeaten 65 as Bishopthorpe chased down 167-7.
Copmanthorpe also moved above Stockton after overhauling Barmby Moor’s 196-5 which featured 60 by Andrew Winn. Cop opener Andy Northfield made 86 and Salman Syed (57no) as he sealed a seven-wicket win with a six.
All-rounder Jamie Agnew (50 and 4-18) earned Ben Johnson a two-wicket win against Hemingbrough, whose runs dried up after the dismissal of Matthew Milburn (64).
Although Richard Tomlinson had the match’s best score of 51, North Cave lost to Burn who romped home by five wickets in 23 overs. Wheldrake’s Dave Fearn took 4-24 as Clifton Alliance were shot out for 74.
Division two leaders Ovington lost their 100 per cent record as they were beaten by Hirst Courtney, who amassed 225-6 with Nigel Emery unbowed on 73 before bowling the York-based side out for 164.
Westow’s Andrew Welford made the most of an excellent home batting track to score 111 in his side’s 260-4 against Woodhouse Grange, who fell 57 runs short.
Golden oldies Colin Banks (54no) and Malc Bowden (24) turned a likely Selby defeat at Kelfield into victory with an heroic late-order stand.
Needing 150 to win, Selby were out of contention at 59-8 after Matt Walker took 4-35, but Banks and Bowden added 63 before Banks completed a remarkable win with last man Jeff Romans, who had earlier taken 4-49.
Veterans Ray Dodd (5-18) and Steve Bygott (5-26) bowled Fulfordgate to victory against University of York Staff for whom Muhammed Suleman took 6-27. Dan Wheeler cracked 87 for Askham Bryan, who edged out Heworth despite 77 by Jeet Chakrabarty from 43 balls.
York RI smashed the season’s best score of 339-7 against Goole in division three with Danny Cameron clattering a 78-minute 111, supported by Pete Mitchell (87 in 69 balls) and Phil Holland, who needed just 38 deliveries for his 57 not out. Graeme Byrne then ripped Goole out for just 85 with 6-34.
Geoff Room’s well-compiled 80 not out guided Thixendale to victory against Welton & Brough, but Trevor Britain’s unbeaten 105 was not enough to prevent North Duffield losing to Melbourne, whose Matt Beevers included four sixes in his 78.
Ross Powell’s unblemished 60 and Mark Seaman’s 5-15 were the highlights of Thorpe Willoughby’s 99-run win at Malton & Old Malton.
Acomb successfully defended 97 at Stillingfleet thanks to 5-13 from 17-year-old Adam Stroughair.
In division four, Dan Wilstrop’s blistering 7-19 took Heworth II to victory against Hemingbrough II who lost their last six wickets for just 20 runs.
Roy Atkinson (5-19) bowled Copmanthorpe II to an easy win against Huntington.
Yapham duo Dan Edwards (5-13) and Scott Hardwick (4-17) destroyed Pockington for 32 in division five.
