A BLISTERING bowling spell by Josh Barrett kept Stockton & Hopgrove firmly at the top of the HPH York Vale Cricket League first division.

Needing 192 to win, Barmby Moor probably thought they had done the hard work by seeing off pacemen Dan Fairclough and Matt Bradshaw, but Barrett came on to record astonishing figures of 8-5-12-7 as Moor tumbled from 47-0 to 99 all out.

Earlier, Stockton rallied from 52-4 thanks to Giles Smith’s 93.

Copmanthorpe recovered from a poor start to beat North Cave. After being 57-7 they managed to finish on 123-8 before Chris Hall (5-15) and Adam Mosely (4-8) whipped Cave out for just 67.

Bishopthorpe’s title hopes received a blow in losing to Hemingbrough who made 213-4 after a 64-ball 103 by Matt Clark. Paul Smales (5-40) put Bishops on the back foot and despite Ian Holmes’ 60 and Scott Clapham’s 54 they fell just short.

John Bladen (105) scored his first century for Clifton Alliance as his 161-run opening stand with Alan Barton (74no) saw off Ben Johnson.

Half-centuries by Tom Rich (71no) and Adam Prescott (54no) saw Burn crush Wheldrake by 126 runs.

Even four wickets in five balls by Mohammed Saeed, which included a hat-trick, could not prevent University of York Staff from losing to Woodhouse Grange in division two.

Westow upset the odds when their nine men won at Askham Bryan thanks to Jamie Smith (4-20) and Andrew Welford (56no).

Ovington hit back from 95-5 to total 181-7 against Heworth with 79 coming from the last ten overs. Heworth then collapsed after Greg Sykes (44) was out, the last five wickets reeling for just three runs.

Andy Charlton (75no) and Matt Walker (52) sped Kelfield to victory at Fulfordgate but Lee Clayton’s 97 was not enough to prevent Selby losing to Hirst Courtney.

Under-18 bowler Jamie Smith (4-20) set up Westow’s win at Askham Bryan, who were all out for 117.

Rejuventated North Duffield defeated Malton & Old Malton thanks to an unbeaten 107 by Trevor Britain.

Will Outhart starred for York RI at Stillingfleet, whose Pete Johnson (7-23) had RI reeling on 49-9. Outhart had retired hurt after being struck by a delivery but returned to score 38 not out and see his side to 123 all out.

Stillingfleet were then bowled out for 38 by Shaun Littlewood (5-17) and Gary Walker (4-15).

Thorpe Willoughby crushed Acomb, who were bowled out for 46, Nadeem Shefta taking 5-3 from five overs.

Matt Reeves (77) and Oliver Steels (47) saw Melbourne cruise home at Thixendale.

Stuart Watson cracked 77 and Michael Dale 67 as Bishopthorpe II hit a match-winning 222-7 at Hemingbrough II in division four.

Burn II hauled themselves off the bottom as Jonathan Adamson (62) led them to victory against Huntington, who sunk to the foot of the table.

York continued their promotion push as John Carlson (61no) guided them home against Wheldrake II.

Dunnington’s Steve Smith, making his first competitive appearance for five years, carried his bat with 81 not out in the win at Yapham, who lost second spot to Thorp Arch & Boston Spa, whose John Orrell struck 96 against Selby II.
