BURN stormed into the final of the Guy Mitchell Cup on the back of a fine all-round performance by Adam Prescott.
They beat HPH York Vale Cricket League second division strugglers Kelfield by 64 runs in an entertaining encounter.
Underdogs Kelfield made a decent start restricting their top flight opponents to 34-2 from ten overs, but Tom Rich (69) benefitted from some dropped catches and was well supported by Ed Clark (39) and Nigel Croad (23) to pave the way for Prescott to smash the ball to all parts to finish with an unbeaten 58 in a nine-over stay at the crease.
That enabled Burn to reach 261-5 from their 40 overs, but Kelfield made a positive response, reaching 63-2 in 14 overs, Phil Smith striking 34 before he was well caught on the boundary off Jamie Bingle.
A fourth wicket stand of 51 between Martyn Rhodes (53) and Neil Atkinson (12) kept Kelfield in the hunt but despite 26 from Jacob Atkinson, the return to the Burn attack of Prescott (4-25), who took three wickets in his second spell, and Jamie Bingle (3-52) saw wickets fall at regular intervals. With Graham Parker taking three catches, Kelfield were all out for 197.
Burn will face either Clifton Alliance or Stockton & Hopgrove in the final at Selby on Sunday, August 21.
