MASTER blaster Matty Clark has clubbed his way into the HPH York Vale League record books.

The Hemingbrough skipper scored his fourth century this summer in division one with a massive 174 against Wheldrake on Saturday.

His punishing effort was a career-best and included 23 boundaries and four sixes.

It also equalled the highest score for the top flight which was achieved in 2009 by University of York Staff’s Afaq Ahmad against Drax.

Wheldrake will certainly be glad to see the back of Clark.

He scored 106 against them in May and also notched 109 against Barmby Moor on the opening day of the season and 103 against Bishopthorpe on July 23.

It is reckoned that he’s the only man to hit four centuries in a first division season in the Vale League.

To put his achievement into perspective, only one other player has scored a ton in the first division this season – John Bladen (Clifton Alliance), 105 v Ben Johnson.

There are five weeks of the season remaining for Clark to improve his record but he will have to step it up if he’s to beat the all-time league record of 192 not out scored by James Dakin (Thixendale) in a division three match against Malton & Old Malton in 2008.

Last season’s highest score was 175 by Hirst Courtney’s Nigel Emery against Thorpe Willoughby in division three.
