North Cave extended their lead at the top of dvision one of the HPH York Vale League with a 132-run win over a young Clifton Alliance side.

Clifton could only muster 121-6 from their 40 overs. In reply, Cave lost Craig Hewson in the third over for one, but then Mike Stellings (52 not out) and James Windeatt (63 not out) added an unbeaten partnership of 117 to take Cave home.

Scott Clapham’s maiden century powered Bishopthorpe to a comfortable victory against Wheldrake.

Clapham shared a 96-run stand with Ben Smith and accelerated from his 50 to 100 in just 22 balls, finally falling for 115, a knock which included ten fours and five sixes.

Ian Holmes then smashed 39 off 19 balls to push the total to 220-5, and the same player effectively ended the contest with a ferocious spell of fast bowling, reducing Wheldrake to 15-4.

Hemingbrough climbed to second spot with a five-wicket win over Hirst Courtney, while Copmanthor-pe slumped to a heavy defeat against Stockton and Hopgrove. Stockton batted first and scored 150, but Cop then had no answer to the bowling of M Bradshaw, M Durham and R Grimes.

All of Ovington’s top three made starts as they reached 64-1, before Burn spinner J Bingle (4-27) instigated a collapse. Ovington concluded on 134-9.

Burn started their reply well but play was then held up while waiting for an ambulance after 16-year-old Chris Tune was hit on the head while fielding.

When play resumed, a collapse came but at 130-7 the result looked a formality. They lost two more wickets before limping over the line.

In division two, Thorpe Willoughby beat Westow by nine wickets with Mark Seaman (5-19 in nine overs) doing the damage.

Kelfield, in only their second game of the season, saw off Selby chiefly because of some brutal hitting from Chris Walker (62no).

Fulfordgate beat York RI by 17 runs with Phil Holland making 86 and taking three excellent catches.

Askham Bryan visited Barmby Moor and reached 166-7 with Grewer (58) and Allen (38) top-scoring but it was Wood who was the man of the match, taking 6-21 when Barmby were all out for 92.

Heworth maintained their position at the top of division three with a nine-wicket win at Copmanthorpe, while there was a tight finish at North Duffield where visitors South Cave and Brantingham won by one wicket.

York beat Stillingfleet by five wickets with Oliver Scurry scoring 72 in a fine batting performance.

In division four, Bishopthorpe II recovered from a slow start to post 159-5 against Pocklington II, but Pock made light work of the total as Elliott Newby stroked an immaculate 98 not out in an unbeaten partnership of 132 with Charlie Wilson (37no) to cruise to victory with four overs to spare.

In division five, Burton Salmon comprehensively saw off Hemingbrough II by 58 runs, while, in division six, Stockton & Hopgrove II thrashed Malton and Old Malton II by 144 runs. Stockton made 202-8, P Herridge leading the way with 45 not out, supported by R Horseman (30) and Pete Fairclough (30).

Thirteen-year-old Kieron Windress took 4-17 off nine overs in his senior cricket debut, but it was in vain as Malton were shot out for 56 with six bowlers sharing the wickets.
