Pickering Town will aim for their second win in four days as they host Maltby Main tomorrow in the Northern Counties East League premier division, writes Oscar Pearson.

Jimmy Reid’s side destroyed Armthorpe Welfare 6-2 on Tuesday and can move up to seventh place if they win again.

On Tuesday’s victory, Reid said: “The pitch was marvellous and it was a comfortable win. We took the lead and went into half-time ahead.

“I brought John Heads on and he scored two. He was our stand-out performer. It’s another three points under our belt and we’ll continue to push on.”

However, tomorrow’s clash with Maltby will provide a stern test.

Said Reid: “I went to watch them play Scarborough last week. They don’t give you any time on the ball and are very hard-working.

“They get right into you from minute one and we’ll have to be wary of that. But if we play like we can we’ll come away with something.”

Reid is confident of a successful run-in as he looks to build on his side’s good home form in the latter stages of the campaign.

“We always play better on our own pitch,” he said. “We’ve got eight home games left and six away, and we’re treating every game as our last. We’re not taking our foot off the pedal and are looking to get into that top four.

“I’m really happy with my squad. Last season I signed 66 new players but this year if we need any, we just look to the under-19s. We’re a team with great spirit and we’re aiming as high as we can.”

The Pikes face Grangetown Boys Club on Tuesday in the twice-postponed last-eight North Riding Senior Cup fixture.

The victors will play Guisborough Town, the cup winners two years ago, at home in the semi-finals.

Reid is optimistic, adding: “We’ll push on now and try to get into the final. We’ve got a great chance because we’ve beaten some strong teams. If we manage that and finish in the top six in the league, next season could be huge for us.”
