PICKERING TOWN boss Jimmy Reid is likely to rest his big guns ahead of their North Riding Senior Cup final on Tuesday.
His side moved up to fifth in the Northern Counties East League premier division table after their 3-0 win at Heanor Town last weekend but, despite a clash at Winterton Rangers still to be negotiated tomorrow, Reid has his gaze firmly on the cup clash at Stokesley against Marske United.
Top scorer Liam Salt was substituted early during the Heanor win with a cut eye, while Reid said that ’keeper Dave Bramley and Joe Danby were among other players feeling the effects of bumps and bruises.
While the Recreation Ground boss is keen for his side to remain unbeaten through the rest of the campaign, he said it would be folly to risk key players in the league with a trophy chance on the horizon.
“Liam got a cut on the eye that was causing him a bit of a problem,” said Reid of Salt’s injury.
“He will be all right. John Heads has a tight groin and there are a few that are a bit bruised and battered.
“We want to finish the season off undefeated and that’s what we are still heading for but Tuesday’s game is the priority and we just need to use our heads.”
The win at Heanor and a 2-1 success over Staveley Miners Welfare in the last home game of the campaign last week pushed the Pikes up to fifth in the ladder but the two teams immediately below them, Worksop Parramore and Retford United, both have games in hand.
Tadcaster Albion, who are putting together a strong finish to the season, will look to hit manager Paul Marshall’s 80 point target by beating Brighouse Town at Ings Lane.
Champions Scarborough Athletic travel to Glasshoughton Welfare.
Selby Town can continue their climb towards mid-table in division one by beating whipping boys Askern Villa, while there is no game for Knaresborough Town.
Harrogate Town, who have slipped out of the play-off reckoning end their Blue Square Bet North season at Vauxhall Motors.
Harrogate Railway entertain Mossley in Evo-stik League division one north.
