Old Malton St Mary’s took advantage of Riccall United’s week off to move seven points clear at the top of the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division.
The Ryedale side won in style too, inflicting a 5-0 beating on eighth-placed Dringhouses thanks to a brace from Marcus Godsell and further goals from Scott Preston, Jon Newton, and Kyle Loughlin.
Riccall still have four games in hand in which to surpass Saints’ tally, while the top two are scheduled to clash on January 4.
Huntington Rovers trounced visitors Aviva 9-1 to move to within two points of second spot.
A Chris Dyson strike and a tap-in from Jon James gave Rovers a lead at the interval but it quickly turned into a rout in the second period.
James added two more to complete his hat-trick before Dyson got his second with a sublime finish. Neale Holmes got in on the act from close range before Kevin Martin hit a brace.
Aviva grabbed a consolation via Adam Osguthorpe, but then Lee Bunce rounded off the victory.
Poppleton beat York St John University 2-1 at the bottom.
Neil Sanderson and Nick Moss scored to leave the students under threat of relegation.
St Clement’s and Terrington Glory were involved in a seven-goal thriller, with Glory emerging 4-3 winners.
Saints took an early lead through Simon Keogh, but strikes from Johnny Brown and Alex Yates made it 2-1 to Glory at the break.
Brown added his second before Chris Rhodes gave the away side a three-goal cushion. Chaz Wrigley and James Shimmin gave Saints hope, but Terrington held on.
Steve Aconley gave Easingwold a half-time lead at York RI but Liam Keenaghan squared things up from the penalty spot after the restart.
Jordan Rhodes was Easingwold’s match-winner, hitting the decisive goal late in the game.
Tadcaster Magnets beat title-rivals Osbaldwick to open up a nine-point gap at the top of division one.
Sam Harrison and Daryl Carter combined to give the away side a 2-1 lead at the break, with Michael Whiteley scoring for Osbaldwick.
Carter added his second after half-time to wrap up the win.
Church Fenton White Horse and Hamilton Panthers both won to move up into fourth and fifth place.
Johnny Langrick hit the only goal as Church Fenton overcame Pocklington Town, while Panthers enjoyed a 5-1 thrashing of Total Sports. Mark Willoughby and Matty Walters bagged for Panthers to give them a 2-1 advantage at the break, and Willoughby added his second.
Darren Brandon rounded the ’keeper for a solo effort before Billy Jackson scored the fifth. Dan Walton netted for Total Sports.
Tockwith beat Hemingbrough 2-0 with two goals from Ian Hutchinson.
In division two, F1 Racing beat Heslington 2-0 to move four points clear at the top. Adam Love scored and was then sent off, while Mike Taylor got the second.
A Dean Wood hat-trick and a brace from Dan Mustill propelled Thorpe to a shock 5-0 win over second-placed Rawcliffe.
Cliffe won 5-2 at Barmby Moor. Simon Houlder, Tom Robinson, Ian Beckram, Chris Jackson and Andy Kirkham all bagged, with Andrew Stone and Shaun Elvidge replying.
