Selby Town have moved rapidly to install a new manager appointing former Pickering Town boss Jimmy Reid as the new man at the Flaxley Road helm.

Reid, who was sacked by Northern Counties East League premier division outfit Pickering Town in November last year, will take charge of the Robins in Saturday’s NCEL division one game at home to Clipstone.

Reid, right, who led the Pikes to unprecedented success last season when the club won the North Riding Senior Cup for the first time in its 100 year-plus history, will be in charge of the Robins until the end of the present season. He will be assisted at Selby by two of his loyal Pickering lieutenants, Steve Brown and Dean McAuley.

The new Selby boss replaces Ian Dring, who quit the club earlier this week after a row over expenses.

Coincidentally Dring’s last match in charge was against Clipstone, who come to Flaxley Road on Saturday.

With the Robins currently in 11th position and still in the NCEL League Cup, there willl be plenty to play for insisted Selby Town secretary Tommy Arkley.

He added: “Selby Town have been overwhelmed by the amount of applicants we have received for the position.

“We had to act quickly in order that we can field a team this weekend.”
