TAKING on Selby Town is a “big challenge” for new manager Jimmy Reid.
The incoming Robins boss believes he will need to turn around the club from top to bottom to restore the glory days to Flaxley Road.
Reid, who took on the Selby job just before Christmas following his dismissal as Pickering Town manager, watched his new team lose 2-0 to Clipstone in the NCEL first division in his first game in charge.
Tomorrow, Selby travel to Teversal and Reid said his immediate ambitions were just to try to collect as many points as possible.
“The club needs an overhaul,” he said.
“Clipstone were a bit better than us and we didn’t pass the ball very well. It’s a big challenge. It’s about ball retention and we need to pass the ball better.
“My priority is to pick up points, get it going and try to steal one of the cups. We want to compete and try to win as many games as we can and try to turn the club around.
“You have got to get on with it.”
Reid will be without Nathan Kamara, who is out for three weeks with a groin injury, but his son Tom will make his debut in defence.
He has also indicated he will be making swift moves to bring new players into the club.
Reid’s successor at Pickering, Mitch Cook, welcomes Albion Sports to the Recreation Ground in the premier division.
With just a point between the two teams, with Pickering in sixth and Albion in ninth, Cook will be keen to pick up a three-point haul that would give the club some respite in a tightly-packed division.
Knaresborough Town host Bottesford Town in the NCEL first division.
A Harrogate Town side comprising former York City players Dave Merris and Craig Nelthorpe shocked Leeds United 3-1 in a midweek friendly at Wetherby Road.
Nelthorpe, Conor Sellars and trialist Nathan Cartman got the goals against the Elland Road reserves.
The win should provide a huge boost to manager Simon Weaver’s squad as they await the visit of Stalybridge Celtic in Conference North.
Neighbours Harrogate Railway host Darlington 1883 in Evo-Stik League first division north. In the south, Scarborough Athletic go to Coalville Town.
