TITLE aspirations in the York Minster Engineering Football League reserve ‘A’ are tightening into a two-horse tussle.

The front-running two both scored clear-cut victories to pull away from the chasing pack.

Second-placed Dringhouses walloped last season’s runners-up Wigginton Grasshoppers 6-0 courtesy of goals from Lee Bond, Liam Robertson, James Robinson, Neil Ducey, Michael O’Shaughnessy and an own goal.

Having led 2-0 at the break the match still hung in the balance, but Dringhouses asserted their superiority in the second half.

Champions and leaders Dunnington bossed the game against Old Malton St Mary’s to score a 5-1 victory.

Jacob Hall, Josh Tattersall, Andy Rose, Rob Hart and Sam Wildwood shared the booty, with Danny Fogg replying for Saints.

Copmanthorpe moved up to fifth place with a 4-1 triumph at home to Easingwold Town.

Sam Bibby gave Cop the lead in the first half but Easingwold levelled just before half-time.

In the second period, a further goal from Bibby, plus efforts from Danny Leach and Lee Atkinson, settled the tie in Copmanthorpe’s favour.

In reserve ‘B’, leaders Tadcaster Magnets gained a 2-1 victory over Aviva to preserve their nine-point lead over Riccall United, who have two games in hand. Aviva’s goal was scored by Russ Turnbull.

Riccall also won, defeating Malton and Norton 5-1.

Rich Stevenson scored for the visitors, who were outgunned by double strikes from James Brunyard and Kevin Kozicki and a solo effort from Brett Collier.

Dan Topping and Sean Allen found the net twice for Heslington as they defeated Stamford Bridge 6-2.

James Fletcher and Russ Carr also scored for the hosts with Sean Skippen and Andy Pope grabbing the goals for Stamford.

Pocklington took a 2-0 lead at home to Fulford before Joe Konarski struck to reduce the deficit.

Pocklington then made it 3-1 within minutes but Kester Whitt hit back for Fulford to set up a grandstand finish in which the visitors missed an open goal with an equaliser looking certain.

Brooklyn scored a 3-0 win over reserve ‘C’ pace-setters Poppleton, while Ben Cooper and Mark Harrison notched for St Clement’s as they racked up a 2-0 win away at Civil Service, both goals coming in the second half.

In the only game to be played in reserve ‘D’, Rufforth United defeated bottom club Bishop Wilton 4-2.

Andrew Healy scored both goals for the visitors with the Rufforth tally shared between Tom Bateson (2), Daniel Smith and Patrick Wahi.
