GOALKEEPER Leon Wrigglesworth has vowed never to play for Tadcaster Albion boss Paul Marshall again after leaving the club amid a busy week of transfer activity at Ings Lane.

The ’keeper – who left the Brewers this month and is to join Northern Counties East League premier division rivals Pickering Town, with striker Steve Baxter now going in the opposite direction – accused Marshall of “having favourites in the dressing room”.

Marshall declined to comment on Wrigglesworth’s outburst and the player denied having a row with certain team-mates on Twitter in the run-up to his exit.

Explaining his reasons for ending his spell at high-flying Albion, Wrigglesworth said: “I was not forced out by anybody although I feel the manager wanted me out of the door.

“The reason for me leaving the club was down to Paul Marshall’s man management of the players.

“I, along with others, feel he has favourites in the dressing room and will not punish these players even if they do wrong.”

Wrigglesworth, who claimed he only knew that division one side Selby Town had put in a seven-day notice of approach for him after he read it in The Press, added: “I have a lot of respect for the owners, the Gores, and a lot of respect for Mike Morton and rest of the coaching staff – especially physio Andy Calvert who helped me through some bad patches with injuries and is carrying on doing so even though I have left the club.

“I will never play under Paul Marshall as I feel he didn’t show me any respect but demands respect from everybody else.

“I am wishing all the players at Tadcaster the best for the rest of the season and look forward to playing against them in March.”

Meanwhile, Tadcaster have announced the signing of Baxter, who has been with Pickering for nine years, though has recently been turning out for Old Malton St Mary’s in the York Minster Engineering League.

He stopped playing for the Pikes following the sacking of manager Jimmy Reid, with Reid, now in charge at Selby Town, claiming the Ryedale club had prevented the player from joining him at Flaxley Road by blocking his release.

Albion have also brought Paul James back to Ings Lane.

The defender played 500 times for the Brewers after making his debut aged 16. and has also had spells at Harrogate Town, Glasshoughton and Knaresborough Town.
