YORK City Ladies footballers enjoyed an excellent 2-0 victory at high-flying North-East Regional Women’s League rivals Hull.
Lauren Shuttleworth was on target against her old team in the first half and City’s top scorer, Jazz Whitwell, made the points safe on 85 minutes.
New signing Lisa Lagethon Bjornstad, from Norway, also proved a great addition to the side, forging a quick understanding with strike partner Shuttleworth, who opened the scoring on 25 minutes following Sara Renfrew’s fine cross from the right wing.
With defender Ruth Brazier, above, keeping things tight at the back and player-of-the-match Nikki Brown and Beth Clayton working hard to win every midfield challenge, the foundations were laid for victory, which was sealed when Whitwell added to her season’s tally.
She showed great ball control to deceive three players in the smallest of spaces before curling her shot into the bottom-right corner.
