WIGGINTON Grasshoppers and Huntington Rovers will meet in the final of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup.
Hoppers reached the final of the Stoneplan Landscape Construction-sponsored competition with a 4-2 win over York Minster Engineering League title hopefuls Riccall United.
Hosts Wigginton were in control during the first half and, when a Riccall player was sent off after 38 minutes, Matthew Tiplady struck twice before the break with two tap-ins.
Riccall got back into the game on 46 minutes when Wayne Brook converted a penalty.
They were reduced to nine men on 60 minutes after a foul in the box and Wigginton’s Lee Stewart netted from the spot .
On 75 minutes, Riccall pulled another goal back but three minutes later Stewart beat the offside trap, made a fine solo run and slotted the ball home.
Rovers needed a 5-3 penalty shootout win to see off Church Fenton White Horse after a 1-1 draw in their semi-final.
After a goalless first half, Chis Dyson converted a near post corner on 65 minutes to put Rovers in front.
However, division one side Church Fenton equalised ten minutes later to force penalties.
Cliffe will take on Fulford United in the final of the York FA Saturday Junior Cup.
Fulford’s Danny Hall was the match-winner at Thorpe United. He found the top corner of the net on 22 minutes with a turn and volley from 30 yards out.
Chris Jackson was on target for Cliffe after 27 minutes in their 1-0 win over Bishop Wilton.
He was clean through on the Bishop Wilton goal and, although the keeper saved his initial effort, Jackson knocked in the rebound.
With Riccall in cup action, Old Malton St Mary's opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the York Minster Engineering League premier division with a 2-0 victory over Aviva.
Marcus Godsell and Steve Baxter got the all-important goals for St Mary's.
Dunnington moved up to fourth following a 3-1 win at home to Terrington Glory.
Olly Newby put Dunnington ahead before half-time, but Matty Bower levelled for the away side after the restart. A Robert Chipps penalty and a second strike for Newby, both in the last ten minutes, saw Dunninton take the spoils.
Copmanthorpe led Dringhouses at the interval courtesy of a Jake Moyse goal and Robin Bedford added a second after the break.
Sam Ripley-Kitson pulled a goal back for Houses.
Poppleton United and York RI played out a goalless draw, largely thanks to Poppy keeper Gareth Dickenson’s heroics.
In division one, Luke Zacharenko scored both goals in Hemingbrough’s 2-0 win at Malton & Norton, a result which consigned the Ryedale side to relegation.
Stephen Gay (2) and Graham Hutchinson scored for Tockwith as they defeated Total Sports 3-2. Ben Brannigan and Dave Knight replied for the visitors.
Haxby upset the apple cart for Rawcliffe with a 2-0 triumph over the division two leaders which opens the title race up in the favour of F1 Racing. Paul Scaife and Paul Holmes struck for United.
Jack Bell, Jack Wilson and Joe Davison were all on target for Strensall as they defeated Barmby Moor 3-2. Neil Hunter and Stuart Barker scored for Moor.
Division three table-toppers Ouseburn beat bottom side Tadcaster Town 4-0 to move four points clear of Sporting Knavemire.
Civil Service led 3-1 at the interval at Crayke thanks to two Matty Deighton goals and a Liam Holding strike from his own half.
In the second half, Deighton completed his hat-trick before Tom Hilling made it 4-2.
Declan Richardson and Lloyd Crawford had the final say for Civil Service to make it 6-2.
In division four, regular marksmen James Darlison and Darren Davis found the net for Cawood, but this time it was in vain as visitors Huntington took the three points with a 3-2 success.
LNER Builders thrashed Wheldrake 6-1 thanks to strikes from Dean Machin (2), Sam Hill (2) and Andy Hurren, along with an own goal. James Smith hit Wheldrake’s consolation.
