Penalties were the order of the day in the League Reserve Cup with four of the six ties being decided by spot kicks.

Wilberfoss provided the shock of the day as they dispatched holders Dringhouses 4-3 on penalties after the sides had fought out a 4-4 thriller. Liam Robertson, Wayne Carter Sam Pepper and Cameron Mulhearn all scored for Dringhouses but they were matched by double strikes from Chris Allan and James Hopwood.

Cup favourites Dunnington defeated Brooklyn 3-2 after a closely fought battle. Andy Rose struck twice and Samson Wildwood was also on target for the Reserve A leaders. Chris Smales bagged a brace for Brooklyn.

There was nothing to separate Malton and Norton and Thorpe United after 90 minutes, but Thorpe edged into the next round with a 5-4 spot-kick victory. David Hawe, Matthew Pearse, Nathan Patrick and Byron Summers were the Thorpe hitmen whilst Rich Stevenson, Joe Jefferson and Steven Hoggard (2) found the net for Malton and Norton.

Stamford Bridge and Poppleton United were also level at full time. Danny King and Curtis Bowles were the Poppleton scorers but goalkeeper Ash Nelson was the hero after the day after saving a penalty in the match and three more in the shootout.

Riccall and York RI drew 1-1 with the away side’s goal coming from Collen Cummings. Riccall went on to triumph 5-4 on penalties.

Bishopthorpe gained a 1-0 triumph at Reserve A Copmanthorpe.

In the Supplementary Cup, Sam Thompson gave Osbaldwick the lead against Brooklyn after 15 minutes and the scoreline remained unaltered until after the break. David Thompson, Kristian Wilkinson and Andrew Phillips then hit three goals in four minutes for Brooklyn to turn the tie on its head. Mike Whiteley’s 80th minute strike proved nothing more than a consolation as Brooklyn held on for a 3-2 victory.

Reserve Leagues

Heslington moved up to third in York Minster Engineering Reserve B with a 2-1 win at Pocklington Town.

Strensall, already relegated from Reserve C, threw away a 3-0 lead after 25 minutes to go down 4-3 to Tockwith.

Martin Stone, Ryan Mumford and Dave Plowman found the net for the defeated home side.

In the Reserve D Supplementary competition, F1 Racing moved three points clear after a 3-0 win at home to Cliffe.

George Trifan, Rich Proctor and an own goal made up the F1 tally, all of which were scored in the first half. Rufforth triumphed 5-4 in a free-scoring game at Bishop Wilton.

Matthew Beckett, Matthew Wilson, Luke Bishop and Tim Hudson all made the score sheet for the home side who were outgunned by strikes from Lee Bartlett (3), Tom Bateson and James Everard.
