OLD Malton St Mary’s moved another step closer to the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division title with a derby victory over Terrington Glory.

The league leaders were made to work hard for the victory, with only a Steve Baxter goal separating the sides after the 90 minutes.

Malton’s challengers were not in the mood to relinquish their title hopes, with both Huntington Rovers and Riccall United proving four goals better than their opposition.

Huntington were 2-0 to the good by half-time against Easingwold Town thanks to a quickfire double from James Edmond, the second of which was the club’s 100th goal of the season.

Chris Dyson then came off the bench to notch a brace, sealing a 4-0 win for the second-placed club.

Riccall conceded two goals to Dringhouses, netted by Mark Woodward and Liam Stilgoe, but managed to put six past their visitors.

United’s haul came courtesy of Gary Collier, Chris Coxon, Martin Howson, Michael Braithwaite and Dave Heron.

A solitary goal from Copmanthorpe’s James Peace ended York St John University’s premier division stay. The students can no longer catch St Clement's, who occupy the space two places above them.

Saints gained a point in their battle with their main opponents in the relegation dogfight, Poppleton United, following a 1-1 draw.

Church Fenton White Horse all but assured their promotion to the top flight as the division one side’s 2-0 win at home to Pocklington Town sent them ahead of Osbaldwick on goal difference.

Anything other than a calamity in their final game against Brooklyn will see Church Fenton promoted, as they have to avoid an 11-goal defeat.

Brooklyn won 3-1 at Total Sports United, who had taken the lead early on through Luke Buckingham.

Andy Phillips (2) and Sean Walker hit back for the visitors in the second half the secure the three points.

Five teams are still in the hunt for promotion from division two after Rawcliffe and F1 Racing were held to draws.

Ricky Hunter and Henry Wharton hit the target for leaders Rawcliffe, but their goals were matched by strikes from Ian Beckram and Andrew Addison.

F1 led at half-time thanks to a decent finish from Danny Penrose, but Thorpe improved after the break and equalised from a Dan Mustill free-kick.

Thorpe then nosed in front through Dean Wood but were pegged back by a George Trifan effort towards the end.

Haxby United gave themselves an outside chance of promotion back to division one with a 2-1 win at Fulford United.

Kieran Harris and James Gilbertson scored for the travelling side, with Steve Cooper bagging for the hosts.
