BATTLING Scarborough defied the gloom that is gathering over their future to bag an impressive Easter Monday triumph.

The Seadogs, who face a winding-up order after accruing debts of more than £2 million, showed enormous character to beat hosts Moor Green 2-1.

It was a superb display from the team who might end this season in oblivion if administrators Begbies Traynor have to sanction the closure of the Nationwide North club unless a cash investment deal is finalised within the next ten days.

All the more remarkable on the pitch was that the visitors fell behind when Peter Faulds notched from close range in the 13th minute. That's how the score stayed until 13 minutes from time when ex-Leeds United striker Tony Hackworth slid the ball in for a leveller.

With two minutes to go Boro applied the coup de grace when substitute Ian Blott smacked in a shot that looped over Moor Green 'keeper Daniel Lewis.

But there was no such away-day joy for Harrogate Town, who perished 3-1 to leaders Kettering.

Harrogate were trailing within five minutes to a Rene Howe strike. The advantage was doubled through Jean-Paul Marna eight minutes before half-time.

Just before the interval Harrogate espied an escape route when Danny Holland converted a cross from Colin Hunter, but once Andy Hall restored the Poppies' two-goal advantage shortly after the hour the game drifted out of Harrogate's reach.
