OLD Malton St Marys moved within a point of regaining the York Minster Engineering League premier division title after defeating York RI 4-1.
Leigh Dutton scored for RI, who found themselves 4-0 down by half time.
Malton now sit a point behind Wigginton Grasshoppers with a superior goal difference on their rivals. Just a trip to Church Fenton White Horse on Wednesday night stands between Malton and the title.
Wigginton rounded off their league campaign with an excellent 7-0 win over an under-strength Copmanthorpe side.
Eddy Clapham put ‘Hoppers in front after four minutes when his cross-shot deceived the Copmanthorpe keeper and floated into the net.
Clapham then added a second eight minutes later when he mopped up after Chris Jackson’s initial shot was parried into his path.
A red card after 20 minutes reduced Cop to ten men before Jackson turned provider again, flicking the ball into Jamie Willstrop’s path for the midfielder to make no mistake from ten yards.
The second half saw Wiggonton’s lead increased further as Luke Roberts hit a superb low drive from 25 yards before before Jackson rounded the goalkeeper to make it 5-0 minutes later.
Wigginton also then saw red to make it ten a side before substitute Alex Delrio added a sixth from close range.
Jackson then completed his brace, volleying home Willstrop’s cross, before Willstrop himself added his second and Wiggy’s eighth to complete the scoring.
A second half Adam Tiffany goal won the points for F1 Racing as they defeated Harrison Signs 1-0.
