FORMER York City full-back Nathan Peat has been declared the "Beckham of Conference North" after joining non-League neighbours Harrogate Town.
The surprise comparison was made by former Leeds United chairman and current Harrogate chief Bill Fotherby, whose remarks referred to Peat's free-kick prowess rather than blond highlights.
Fotherby said: "He's a real coup for us. He's probably got the best left-foot in the Conference and at set-pieces he's a master, like Beckham. He will be the Beckham of Conference North."
Peat, who was released by City boss Billy McEwan at the end of last season, joins former Minstermen team-mates Dave Merris, Darren Dunning and Jamie Price at Wetherby Road.
