HOT-SHOT Mark Swales scored all four goals as Pickering Town beat Lincoln Moorlands 4-1 in the Northern Counties East League premier division.
Fourth-placed Pikes trailed after eight minutes to a goal by Lincoln's Craig Bridge.
Swales made it 1-1 within a minute and a competitive first half ended with the sides level.
The deadlock was broken by Swales' 64th minute penalty and the marksman lashed in a third from distance on 69 minutes.
A headed goal in the final minute completed the Swales show.
Chairman Tony Dunning said: "When Mark is on form, he is brilliant. He is quite a player.
"Overall, we were not at our best, but we needed to win to keep it interesting at the top."
Pickering and the chasing pack moved closer to leaders Winterton Rangers, who were fortunate to escape with a point at home to Selby Town.
The Robins, fifth in the premier division, were disappointed with a 2-2 draw after leading twice.
Selby, who have lost only two of their last 13 league games, took a 24th minute lead through Christian Fox's 13th goal of the campaign.
Winterton equalised seven minutes later with a disputed penalty, awarded against Andrew Hart and converted by Rob Northen.
Bruno Holden's 12th goal of the season restored the Robins' advantage in the 73rd minute, but Philip Jackson's unstoppable long range shot levelled the match with 12 minutes remaining.
Debutant Ryan Chadwick came on for the final ten minutes and almost snatched a winner.
Said assistant boss Gary Cygan: "When you are 2-1 up with 12 minutes to go, you are hopeful of getting the result and we needed the three points.
"It was the best game I have seen all season. Both teams played football in not too brilliant conditions.
"There is not a lot in it at the top. Glapwell and Pickering won, so it is close. Anyone could still win the league and we are in with a chance, but we have probably got to go on a 15-game winning run."
Selby host division one strugglers Borrowash in the League Cup third round tomorrow (7.45pm).
In division one, Tadcaster Albion moved up to eighth with a 2-1 victory away to basement side Rossington Main.
Super-striker Danny Gray scored twice in the second half for Albion, who trailed to a first half strike by Lee Holmes who followed up a parry by 'keeper Tom Ryder.
Scarborough Athletic, who have been deducted six points for fielding suspended players, won 3-0 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Tadcaster and Scarborough are scheduled to collide at Ings Lane tomorrow (7.45pm), but the game is likely to postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Meanwhile, Harrogate Town's fortunes took a further nosedive in Blue Square North as they were beaten 3-2 at Stalybridge.
Town led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Steve Burton's 39th minute goal, but Stalybridge scored three times in a 15-minute spell after the break.
Mark Hume netted in the final minute for the visitors, who have won only one of their last seven league and cup games.
Harrogate Railway Athletic won their first match since tangling with Mansfield in the FA Cup second round, beating Mossley 2-1.
Scott Ryan scored a goal in each half and Mossley pulled a goal back in the last minute.
