GOALS flooded the York Sunday Afternoon Football League with each of the three first division games averaging almost 13 goals while a 21-stun salute was detonated in the lone second division game.
That sole outing in division two saw Yearsley Grove swamp Rose & Crown 21-0. The main scourges of the visitors were John Kennelly with eight goals and Stuart Dickenson with six.
Brendan Harte bagged a hat-trick with solo efforts for Nick Fallon, Matthew Allen, Matthew Coulson and Marc Cocker to transform an 8-0 half-time lead into a rout. David Lawn even missed a penalty.
Dunnington led the way in the first division net-busting deluge. They crushed hosts Copmanthorpe 15-1 led by a five-goal haul from Scott Nichols. Other scorers were Dave Potter (3), Lukas Gen-ever (2), Joe Waines, Oliver Hayden and Daniel Gough, plus a penalty by Robert Hart and an own goal.
Clifton and Kings Head were more evenly matched though the latter will be kicking themselves. With 20 minutes to go, the Kings' men led 5-4 - Sam Thackray's four-goal salvo supplemented by a Mickey Brown effort - but they buckled to lose 8-5. Clifton's crackshots were Mark Cairns (2), William Allan, Nathan Allan, Kevin Butler, Scott Stewart, Terry Taylor and Darren Brandon.
Second-half power was also displayed by Bubwith White Swan, who turned a 2-0 half-time lead into an 8-1 savaging of visitors College of Law. Matthew Wright (3), Tom Robinson (2), Matthew Bainbridge, Jeremy James and Matthew Rhodes were on target. Even the Law ranks' consolation was an own goal.
