A pitch inspection at noon today was scheduled to determine whether Pickering Town's epic FA Vase journey can continue, while Selby Town and Tadcaster Albion are almost certain to sit the weekend out.

Pickering lost out to fellow Northern Counties East League premier division outfit Winterton Rangers in the last round, but were then reinstated after Rangers were found to have played an ineligible player.

The Pikes are due to play Merstham in the fourth round in Surrey tomorrow, but sustained heavy rain has placed the game in severe doubt.

Chairman Tony Dunning said the chances of it being played were "very slim" and the game is now likely to be rescheduled for next weekend.

Selby Town's home game against Lincoln Moorlands Railway in the NCEL premier division is almost certain to be off, with a third of the Flaxley Road pitch under water yesterday.

Manager Bob Lyon said: "We have been on a good run, but you get these interruptions.

"We will just have to start again next week at Liversedge."

Ings Lane at Tadcaster, where Tadcaster Albion were due to entertain Leeds Met Carnegie in NCEL division one, was also badly waterlogged and although a formal inspection will be held tomorrow morning, manager Jimmy Reid said a postponement was inevitable.

In Blue Square North, Harrogate Town take on mid-table Barrow looking to rekindle their promotion challenge.
