NEVILLE TUTILL, a well-known former cricketer and footballer, has died in York, aged 83.

Tutill, father of former York City centre-back Steve, was a fast bowler for Huntington Cricket Club in the York League and played as a striker for Huntington Rovers FC in the York and District Football League.

He was a part-time professional footballer with Oldham Athletic and also had a spell playing for York City reserves.

In later years, he was a familiar figure acting as a steward at York Racecourse.

Born in Huntington, Tutill, went to school there before undertaking an apprenticeship with Sessions Printers.

After serving with Black Watch and Seaforth Highlanders in the Second World War, Tutill returned to Sessions before taking up a post with a printing firm in Kenya, where he played football and cricket, as well as umpiring and refereeing.

On returning to Huntington, he spent the last 17 years of his working life at Ben Johnson printers.

He leaves his wife, Carol, and sons, Steve and Leigh.

A funeral service will be held at York Crematorium on Monday, July 19, at 10.30am.
