FORMER York City favourite Jon McCarthy will be rolling back the years when he takes part in the Yorkshire Masters a week on Sunday.

McCarthy is a member of the Sheffield Wednesday team at the Sheffield Arena event, having played four games on loan with the Owls in 2002.

He is one of six past Minstermen playing in the Sky Sports-televised tournament that will also feature Hull City, Sheffield United, Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers and Huddersfield Town, who will be making their Masters’ debut.

Towering striker Leo Fortune-West will lead the line for Doncaster, while Peter Duffield and Tom Cowan will turn out for the Blades and Huddersfield respectively.

Barnsley, meanwhile, will be calling on the services of one-time members of the Bootham Crescent management staff Neil Thompson and Neil Redfearn.

Other notable performers will be skilful Italian Benito Carbone and one-time Nigerian international Efan Ekoku, who will both be donning Wednesday colours.

The evergreen Dean Windass, meanwhile, is playing for Hull, having famously scored the Wembley goal that fired his home-town team into the Premier League two years ago.

Three former City players will also take part in Sunday’s Northern Masters competition.

Goal-getters Alex Mathie and Marco Gabbiadini will do battle for fierce rivals Newcastle and Sunderland, while Darren Edmondson is representing Carlisle.

In tomorrow’s North West event Mark Tinkler is in the Leeds United squad.
