FORMER Copmanthorpe footballer Lucy Staniforth enjoyed a second run out at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Germany during England Women’s final group game.

The 17-year-old midfielder came on as a 63rd-minute substitute for Isobel Christiansen with the Three Lionesses trailing 1-0 to Japan but was powerless to prevent England eventually losing 3-1 and exiting the competition.

Earlier in the tournament, the Sunderland Ladies’ teenager came on as a first-half replacement during the 1-1 draw with Nigeria but remained on the bench for the 1-0 defeat against Mexico.
