THE two heavyweights of the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division clashed in round one of the Senior League Cup.

Runners-up Dunnington partially avenged two league defeats at the hands of top flight champions Dringhouses by walloping them 5-0.

Scott Sullivan and Chris Burgess both scored in the first half and Dringhouses’ early exit was confirmed when they conceded an own goal before Jimmy Wilmoth added two late goals.

The surprise result was a 5-4 win for division one Hemingbrough at premier division Wilberfoss.

Tom Collins netted a late winner for ’Brough after Wilberfoss levelled with three minutes remaining.

Collins had earlier opened the scoring before Richie Collins, Luke Zacharenko and Craig Haythorne hit the target. The Wilberfoss scorers were Olly Newby (2), John Heads and Richard Tinson.

Huntington beat division one Pocklington on penalties after the sides drew 1-1.

York RI trounced Thorpe 9-1, with Shaun Stockdale netting a hat-trick, while Dave McNichol and Mark Woodward got two each.

Goals from Jon Beech, Alex Janes and Dave Dawson saw Poppleton knock out Bishopthorpe 3-1.

York St John beat Haxby 6-1 with goals from Charles Bowman, Ryan Newton, Mark Devonshire, Shaun Clarke, Josh Hind and Mike Wibberley. Ben Janes replied.

Riccall beat Hamilton Panthers 5-1 with strikes from Gary Collier, Wayne Brooke (2), Mike Brathwaite and Jeremy James.

Chris Clarke hit the only goal of the game as Tockwith beat Malton & Norton 1-0.

The Reserve Cup final on May 23 will be contested by Tadcaster Magnet and Dringhouses. Fulford were denied promotion from division three when they lost 2-1 at home to Osbaldwick.
