ALL-CONQUERING Acomb WMC clinched their fourth trophy of a memorable season by winning the final of the Ian’s Cars of Barlby York Sunday Morning Football League Junior Trophy.

Division three league champions Acomb cruised to a 5-0 win over Hemingbrough in the final to complete a trophy haul that includes the York FA Sunday Morning Junior Cup, the League Cup and the championship.

Holders Acomb opened the scoring on two minutes with a header from prolific striker Danny Gray to lead 1-0 at the break.

The second period saw both sides create chances, but it was Acomb who got the all-important goal when a Scott Nicholas corner was headed in by Michael Creswick.

Nicholas then beat the offside trap to make it 3-0 before Gray struck twice to complete his hat-trick and wrap up the tie.

Acomb’s incredible season has seen them play 18 league games and 18 cup matches.

Final hero Gray has played a fundamental role in the club’s success this season, with his treble taking his tally to 52 goals for the campaign.

Meanwhile, underdogs Derwent United saw off eight-man Hounds 3-1 in a red card-laden final of the Ian’s Cars of Barlby York Sunday Morning League Senior Trophy.

In a fiercely contested game, cup specialists Hounds took the lead in the 26th minute with a goal from Ben Olsson.

Derwent were unlucky not to be on level terms just before the break when Dean Nutall fired in a shot but his effort was cleared off the line. Hounds should have doubled their score within two minutes of the restart, but Chris Jackson sent his header wide of the goal.

It all suddenly started going wrong for Hounds in the 56th minute when United were awarded a penalty, which was converted by Simon Cooke.

Hounds went down to ten men minutes later when Olsson was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Derwent then made it 2-1 when a free-kick from Nutall was nodded in by Damian Cox.

Then came a second penalty for Derwent after a rash challenge in the box, which was again converted by Cooke again for a 3-1 lead.

Hounds then had Gary Lumley sent off and he was followed by team-mate Gareth Roberts six minutes later to leave Hounds down to eight men and with no way back into the tie.
