York Minster Engineering Football League Senior League Cup favourites Dunnington edged into the last four but they needed a late leveller to take the game into a penalty shoot-out where they beat York RI 3-1.
Dunnington went in front through an own goal and Chris Burgess doubled their advantage before a first-half goal from Carl Shepherd and second-half strikes from Cameron Sanderson and Mark Woodward gave RI the lead.
Then, in the final ten minutes, the RI goalkeeper received a red card before Stuart Lee hit Dunnington’s third to force the shoot-out.
Awaiting Dunnington will be Huntington Rovers who toiled to account for division one side St Clement’s.
A tap-in from Pete Laidlaw gave Huntington an early lead but Scott Nicholas restored parity before the break.
Huntington went back in front through Kev Martin only for Danny Peace to level within a minute. The tie was settled seven minutes from time when sub Danny Franks scored from a scramble.
Riccall defeated York St John’s 4-1 with Gary Collier, Michael Braithwaite and Louis Blackwell (2) on target and will now meet Wigginton Grasshoppers in the other semi-final.
After an hour Grasshoppers led Poppleton through a Matt Tiplady brace and a goal from Ben Coates before Poppleton mounted a late rally. However, Wigginton held on.
Division four side K S Polonia were no match for White Horse in the York Minster Engineering Junior Cup as the Church Fenton side – 2008 finalists in 2008 – won 5-1 led by John Marshall’s hat-trick.
They will meet Strensall, who beat Heworth 1-0, John Cooper hitting the all-important goal 18 minutes from time.
F1 Racing and Heslington will contest the second semi-final as the two sides have been drawn to meet each other for the second successive season.
Ross Howard, with virtually the last kick of the game, settled the tie over Aviva 1-0, while Heslington ousted Amotherby & Swinton 3-1.
