THE prolonged York football season ends this week with three York Minster Engineering Football League finals.
First up on Monday is the Reserve League Cup final between reserve ‘D’ side Tadcaster Magnets and reserve ‘B’ champions Dringhouses.
Tadcaster comfortably defeated three reserve ‘A’ teams en route to the final, so Dringhouses, winners of this competition four times in the last ten years, will be on their guard.
Strensall tackle F1 Racing in the Junior Cup final on Tuesday with division two side Strensall favourites against division three opposition.
Strensall too are unbeaten in their last 13 matches, but F1’s advance has shown dogged character.
They beat Bishop Wilton by the odd goal in five, defeated Aviva with the last kick of the game in round two and snatched an equaliser in the dying minutes against both Selby Olympia and Heslington before winning a penalty shoot-out.
The season’s finale is the Senior Cup Final between tournament favourites Dunnington and division one champions Wigginton Grasshoppers on Wednesday.
Dunnington have hit 27 goals in their four ties to the Final and conceded just two and they also beat Grasshoppers in the final of this competition two years ago.
But Wigginton have already won the division one championship and will be aware Dunnington have twice finished runners-up in other events this term.
All three finals kick-off at 6.45pm at York RI’s New Lane ground.
