Pickering Town goalkeeper Toby Wells has received a pre-season boost with the award of his North Riding County Football Association cap, writes Henry Cowen.
The cap is awarded to players who have featured in ten games for the North Riding County’s youth teams.
Due to Wells’ tenth match being postponed on four occasions, it appeared he was destined to be marooned on nine appearances.
However, it was decided that Wells should still receive the accolade and he was awarded his cap at the York Minster Engineering League’s annual general meeting.
The ex-Easingwold School deputy head boy, who started his career between the posts for Easingwold Town juniors, began to feature for the Pikes’ first team at the end of last season. He recently received a one-on-one coaching session with Manchester United goalkeeping coach Jack Robinson.
Wells is hoping his session with Robinson, and the confidence gleaned from his newly-awarded cap, will help him nail down the Pickering number one jersey for the new season.
